Windows 7

Post by ADF-Deano »

Windows 7

I've been playing with the RC version of windows 7 and must say I'm pretty impressed.I was sceptical given the AMAZING SUCCESS of vista :P

I will definitely be converting once it becomes stable. After the initial install, windows 7 had installed all hardware and not one piece of hardware was with out a driver.

So here's what I found;

From some of the testing I did, I noticed that it is extremely stable and efficient with hardware. It seems to have better performance as well.I think I'll dub this version the "Smart Version" as it is incredibly easy to use and has some very smart auto configuring features, Like networking.

You can also drag a window to the top of the screen and it will automatically expand and take up the whole screen (maximise), same goes for the side (window will take up half the screen). It has a shake or wobble feature when you grab a window and shake it left to right all other windows minimise to the taskbar. Also has a new feature called aero peek which allows you to get a sneaky pete

Microsoft Paint and Wordpad have had a massive freshen up (about time).

A new Security Centre dubbed the Action Center

Backup features now include the option to create a repair disc and/or system image :)

one of the first things I looked at cable, 64 bit needs all drivers signed. :)

To get it working follow this :)

1. Download pg2-rc1-test2.exe
2. Install normal, but don't launch
3. Download dseo12.exe
4. Run dseo12 as Administrator
5. Click through until various radio buttons show up
6. Now Enable Test Mode (select and click Next)
7. Now tick Sign a System File and paste this in assuming you installed it on C: drive
C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pgfilter.sys
8. Run a command prompt as administrator and run the following
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
9. Exit and reboot

peerguardian now works wooooohooooo

Aye, it is what Vista should have been.

And it does find alot of drivers that both XP and Vista had problems with.

BUT......

Hopefully they do something about the issue of Sound and Motherboard Drivers.

Ive installed this OS at least 30 times now and its biggest problem is it thinks its right, no matter what you tell it.

Some drivers you can overwrite, others it wont let you.
Different MBs obviously come with different drivers, especially for sound.

Plenty of ways "around" this problem, but no straight forward answer.

Still, 8/10.

Never had any trouble, I assume your running a 64 bit version to be having the driver issue?

all drivers need to be signed, although there is away around it.On my 3 test systems with dual boot win 7 and vista, vista on average uses between 12 - 17% more ram :)

Unfortunately through no fault of Microsoft some drivers are still not 64 bit for certain manufacturers.I think its bs in this day and age that 64 bit drivers are not the first to be created and is why I currently can not use 64 bit.Maybe its about time Microsoft just dropped the production of 32 bit altogether. Most people wont upgrade....that's right upgrade to 64 bit because of the idiots that came out in the beginning telling everyone that you cant get drivers don't upgrade. If everyone starts using it manufacturers wont have a choice or they will be out of business :)

anyway there is only a few manufacturers left, but that's my rant out of the way.

for most people (probably 80%) you will never have a problem.

Well... us 20% that like to.... "stretch" the hardware capabilities and fully utilize all the features our nice current hardware can support - I agree Deano.....

Its poop!!!

like my 8gig of ram (with 4 and a bit) laying useless in 32 bit.....

Thank goodness I am doing Uni part time.

Got Win 7 Pro for $50.00 through a student offer from Microsoft [smilie=beerchug[1].gif]
I knew my student email would come in handy for something one day [smilie=laugh[2].gif]

Pity I can only buy one copy. [smilie=jpshakehead.sml[1].gif]

Anyway, I installed it on my laptop. So far so good.
I have noticed it starts and shutsdown quicker than XP and Vista.
