so far so good. I'm about haf way through installing all the updates (52 of them!!!) and before it would only let me get half way through downloading them and it'd do a reboot to install the updates it had downloaded but now it downloaded them all and is now installing #22 of 45 (the other 7 updates were drivers for various things that i have more recent versions from the supplyers)

anyone know anything about this? ACPI\ATK0110 its suposed to be a hardware control program for asus MB's and it apears that it is the cause of my problems. Some ppl are even calling it a virus cus once its installed it cannot be removed short of reformatting the HDD!!! could it be that i should get a new MB? The thing is that vista is saying that i should install it!!! WTF

go here http://support.asus.com/download/downlo ... uage=en-us and select your setup for your mb and look for the acpi driver for your motherboard.Make sure its the vista version. If that doesn't work install the asusAI from your motherboard disk, i think its the virtual drive that come's with that MB

think i may have figured it out. i've stoped vista from Dling that update and have had no problems. all other updates had gone off without a hitch and even installing gfx drivers is going fine Knock on wood all seems to be good [smilie=flicks.gif] also one of the things i read in a forum sugested aswell as not downloading the update changing the power settings in vista to highest performence.

K i think i'm gona have to try a different MoBo. I looked at the asus website and various forums of ppl with the same problem as me and all asus says is to install the update and it will fix every thing but it doesn't. The update is BS and causes more problems. As soon as i install it (and i'm not the only one and the problem isnt limited to the one model) it wont even boot into windows. they say to install the utility that deano suggested but it wont install until the update is installed but as soon as you install the update you cant boot back into windows to install the utility. from what i've seen asus dont care so i'll be getting a new MoBo and will never buy anything with an asus name on or asociated with it again.

Try downloading service pack 2, it usually fixes most of the problems.
