Does it do it with all maps?
If not then....
Try and download border map. If that don't work then uninstall and reinstall AAO
I have uploaded it here for you... 11.7MB

Evolution is just so unlikely to produce complex life forms.

Do these 2 steps, first one first, then, if it doesnt work, resort to the second.
Just press CRTL+ALT+DEL and go to processes.
If that doesnt work, do this
[spoil]2.) Re-Install AA[/spoil]
Code: Select all
1.) Close all unnecessary processes in the background, the game might not have the resources it needs.
If that doesnt work, do this
[spoil]2.) Re-Install AA[/spoil]

ok downloaded an nvidia monitor. for some reason when im not playing aa im only using about 17% if that but when i play it fly's up to 95% + and i assume thats why its crashing. i used to play this game with a 128mb graphics card and a gig of system ram and had no problems but now im running 2g and an 8600gt it should run better but its using more memory?
have installed the latest driver from nvidia.
fix reg errors?
ram re seated no difference.
i even bump the graphics right down and i still crash
the only thing i use in the background is nmonitor and when aa crashes nmonitor shows the memory maxing out causing aa to crash. im not sure if its gpu memory or system memory its monitoring though
its driving me insane

wow this is a tuffie... have you tried enlarging your page file? control pannel>system>advanced>performance settings - make sure that in memory usage is set to the programs icon not system cashe and enlarge your virtual memory. i'm using xp pro with 4x1G sticks and have my virtual memory set to 4990MB.
also try opening AA and toggle the ~ key and type: flush
then: dumpcache
then: obj garbage
these 3 commands will clean out any junk that aa is bloating itself with. on a side note; what did you change prior to getting this fault?

ah, and to fix any possible reg errors go to: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading download this, it's free, and run its cleaner and registry options. (i'm only think that it might help as there could be a possible conflict creating a loop... it is a little straw grasping i know but it can't but help).
ok, had another read and see that your running the 8600gt, (the same card that i have). my gut tells me that this will not solve your problem but i can show you how to squeeze some more love out of the card. have a look at this 7LXLhW5PsQY you can then get rivatuner from here http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner.
i'm running the asus 8600gt and have my current settings at:
core clock: 630MHz
shader clock: 1581MHz
memory clock: 430MHZ
again, i doubt that this would stop aa from crashing but if it is of intrest i've writtan a whole thread on the topic here http://fdgamers.net.au/forum/showthread.php?t=1179

did you upgrade your card in this pc from 128mb to the 8600 on this machine?if so you may need to increase your AGP aperture size in your BIOS settings.Just a thoughtADF-d3v1l wrote:ok downloaded an nvidia monitor. for some reason when im not playing aa im only using about 17% if that but when i play it fly's up to 95% + and i assume thats why its crashing. i used to play this game with a 128mb graphics card and a gig of system ram and had no problems but now im running 2g and an 8600gt it should run better but its using more memory?
