AAO 2.8.2 Optimization

Updated to make it easier to follow

This all started when i noticed my new video card was not much of a gain....and the system was always accessing the HDD...so after a little searching it seems that the new version of America's Army is set to use directx8, And is not even using your video card memory, It is using Virtual Memory (i.e your Hard Drive)...so follow the guide below and you'll notice an instant gain... [smilie=halm[1].gif] (thanks to AON for this)

Also after doing this update i noticed that AA has a loading bar down the bottom now when your loading a game.

Backup Your ArmyOps.ini File First.

Go to your America's Army System Folder....generally at C:\Program Files\America's Army\System and open ArmyOps.ini in your favourite text editor.

Under the category [Engine.Engine]

Find
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
Change To;
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
Find;
DetectedVideoMemory=0
Change To;
DetectedVideoMemory=512 //The amount of Memory your video card has

Under the category [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]

Find
UseVSync=True
Make sure it reads;
UseVSync=False
Find;
DetailTexMipBias=0.0
Change To;
DetailTexMipBias=0.8

Note: This change is if you have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Sound Card ONLY!!!

Under the category [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]

Find
Channels=32
Change To;
Channels=128

EDIT: The programs below may cause problems but only when you have AAO running at the same time...so the only real one that should give you trouble is team speak overlay....

I did this and now the game crashes everytime I try and join a server. :(

I turned off teamspeak overlay and all is good.
But I have not noticed any increase in frame rate. (all ingame settings are on normal - I will play with them and post back)
Graphics are nicer. :)

This may help others who encounter problems with the changes.
This was at the bottom of the original post on AON.

Even tho no1 here is in it- if your in Team Warfare dont or CDC will ban ya from Team Warfare for not having the same .ini as them

just keep a backup of your ini file....so my understanding is you can not change anything....? not even have a bind in your file...this is not a hack....its using directx9....the way the game was meant to be played....maybe T-W-L should pull there heads out there rectum.

after playing with the setings in game - I have found this mod causes me to loose fps.

On Snakeplain I usually get around 40fps in game and 80+ as pectator.

Last night I was getting 15 - 20 in game and 40+ as spectator.

So it has cut my rates in half. I will go back to old ini just to confirm.

Maybe my comp is to oldfor it too make a difference, dunno.

My comp is
P4 3.0ghz
3GB ddr400 RAM (2x!GB Sticks & 2X512MBsticks all Kingston)
HIS X1950 GC  AGP 512mb
P865PERL MB
HD 2x 160GB Seagate Barracuda SATA

Huh?

Not true the ini is designed to be modified, everyone's are different. CDC doesn;t really even look at the ini, only the T W L CVARS whic run the same as any other AC group CVAR set and kick for illegal settings.

Where on earth did you hear that?

argh ok...i thought it was a bit odd they would scan for everything...as everyone has different keys set and key binds for that matter.

OK, the latest.

I have set all ingame settings to MAX and checked every box there is except use VSYNC and the result is

I now have increased frame rates and a noticeable reduction in lag (except 1st round). [smilie=75.gif]

Just to confirm it I reset back to what I had and I started getting lag issues again.

So for me, it works but I have to up all the settings - that's good isn't it??

Yep I got to agree all I see is the Avatar.....lol

NICE....

But change ini any way will give it a go..

Well done them changes....

I lost fps when I had 50 to 60 in game I went down to 20,30.

So change this 1 back,

Quote:

RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice

Change To;

Quote:

;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice

& now it runs the same as before I made any changes.

Does this work Deano. Or not?....

Posted: Sat Nov 17, 2007 10:30 am
by ADF-Deano
It does for me and a lot of other m8....it seems to me that it depends on the particulars of your system...directx9 can be very demanding and it may be the case that systems that are right on the limit are overloaded once this is enabled....But im just guessing orf course without some sort of facts you cant work it out...

unless people want to post there system specs and if it helped....and exactly what they gained and or lost.

I read that Teamspeak Overylay won't work with these fixes.

I suggest you try this one instead. It works for me and it does the same thing.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but mine was already set to 0.8 so I didn't change it. Is this good or bad?

I'll edit this later if I find a difference in fps. I know mine is normally around 50-60

ok guys all the above works it drops frame rates in soem area's but more then anything reduces loading times you need a pretty decent computer thou to see teh gains i think more then anythign just up's the visuals and downs the memory timeing or data transfers i say do these changes if you ahve a good pc if not leave it norm or u will run into probs
