Organizing My Software

Post by ADF-Deano »

As i fix PC's i have a massive amount of programs and stuff on my server....the trouble is when you want a specific program it's hard to search for as file names are not always named what they should be....

e.g. windows media player 10 has a file name called MP10Setup.exe

i found a setup phphd that is fairly good but you need a web server......which i have.Does anyone know of any other apps that do a similar job....i like the php option....but would like a setup that maybe auto scanned your drive and added details......(yer i'm asking a lot [smilie=laugh[2].gif] )

let me know of the setups you guys run if any......

You could prob do it in VB. Have VB search your whole Pc for exe's and then match the file size with whats in the DB for that name. :D

You would require a lot of help from everyone to build the DB. Maybe have a option to put unknown ones into the DB. Whoever builds this could make a bit of cash as I have exe's everywhere. Ill think about building it.

ah silly question but when you down load a program dont you put it in a directory like oh i dont know "DownloadedPrograms"? then all your setup files would all be in the same place.
